Seawall continued

The days pass surrounded by land and sea. We work when the tides are low enough to let us onto the flats. Sometimes the water is inches from our feet in three directions. It feels like the sea has been parted just for us.  Fish jump. Birds dive after the little ones, close enough for us to see their meals struggling for freedom. A seal pup comes in close to see what we’re up to.

The work is slow. Pick out a rock from our staging ground. Five minute excavator ride down to the wall. Hope it fits. Somedays, between the tides and site limitations, we only get fix or six big rocks set. Some days are much more productive. The work falls into a rhythm and the wall grows.
