First sketch for a Boothbay Harbor landscape design
Quick sketch this morning of a new front entrance for Bristol Marine in Boothbay Harbor. Check out my first thoughts after a site visit last week here.
I used to be really self-conscious about drawing. In junior high, I kept telling my art teacher, Mrs. D, that I couldn’t draw. I’d insist I hadn’t inherit my mother’s artistic talents like my sister had, pleading instead that I’d been born with my Dad’s genes. I used this excuse (really, I was just afraid of not being “good”) so much that when we had a class celebration for 8th grade graduation, Mrs. D presented me with a pair of my father’s “jeans”. Well done Mrs. D.
Today, I’m more comfortable with a stone in my hand than a pencil, but I try not to let my old fears of drawing get in the way. I view a sketch as part of the conversation with a client. It’s an important tool to confirm our spoken and written words have us on the same page. And, I don’t have to worry about getting a good grade from Mrs. D.
