This is a slow process. We’re cutting each step for a smooth run and rise. It’s taking about a day and a half per step. One more to go.

We got this first step in, a beautiful twelve and a half footer, before the storm.
These steps will lead to a set of recently completed steps made from the same antique granite
Each step gets split for easier handling, cut for precision sizing, and notched for a consistent height
That block of wood protects the antique granite from being marred by the excavator teeth and keeps us from having to use chains or straps
We do our best to keep everything covered and protected from the elements this time of year, but sometimes a torch is necessary.
Willie is making an adjustment with the cut-off saw to make sure the steps line up well and the joints are tight.
Willie has spent days cutting these steps, work that would usually be done by a saw shop, but to keep the project moving had to be done on site.
One more step to go before starting a stone wall along the left side of the stairs.
