Granite hearth installation

Getting this granite slab inside to sit as a hearth stone was a fun challenge
With our client, we picked out a granite slab at JC Stone in Jefferson, ME. We had to cut it down before loading it - it was too big for our truck.
The carpenters built us a ramp. The plan was to slide the stone through the front door.
You can move a lot of mass with rollers and lining bars. Excavators help, too.
We had a plan, and a lot of help from the carpenters, but it really helped to slow down and talk it through.
Getting through the threshold was the hardest part. We only had a few inches clearance on either side and the door was brand new.
Once inside, we used rollers and lining bars to slide the granite hearth into position.
Zen master Willie found a moment of peace after a tense installation.
